Airpacks

Client:
Airpacks Ltd
Project Type:
Design to Manufacture
Product Features:
Kore is a building system for the construction of highly energy efficient buildings that meet the highest EU building regulations.
The Challenge:

Airpacks have been providing polystyrene products to the construction industry for over 40 years. They wanted to develop a building system by evolving an existing product, which offered exceptional energy efficiency and was quicker to construct than other insulated concrete systems. Airpacks briefed MotionTouch to design and manufacture the plastic parts which are used to assemble the structure and hold it in place while the concrete is poured into the construction.

The Process:

The MotionTouch engineering team were tasked with designing the plastic parts for the most efficient manufacture and unit cost. The strength of the construction was vital in order to meet EU building safety standards, so MotionTouch worked closely with the team at Airpacks to design the optimum solution. The tooling was then made in China and initial production volumes were subject to testing and EU certification.

The Outcome:

Kore hit the market at exactly the right time. The increased focus on energy efficient construction has led to rapid uptake of the Kore system and it is being used in construction projects across Europe. The product is well placed to grow in a market driven by the energy efficiency requirements of the regulators and home owners alike.

Henry Powell, Client Director of MotionTouch commented "Our contribution to this project has been particularly rewarding and it has been tremendously exciting to work on a product which is transforming modern construction. The Kore technology results in significant energy saving and therefore carbon reduction. Homeowners will in turn benefit from reduced energy bills - in fact a number of us would like to build our own homes with Kore."

Noel Brady of Airpacks added, "The development of the KORE ICF Building System was a very natural step for our company to take given the years of experience we have working with the product. The technical and physical challenges of pouring concrete into an EPS wall was one we were confident we could overcome especially once we began working with Motion Touch. The experience and expertise of the Motion Touch team ensured that we had a final product to market within a very short time frame, exceeding our expectations. Since this time we have worked closely with Motion Touch who constantly work to ensure that our product components are of the highest quality."
